2026 AMERICAN BLACK FILM FESTIVAL AND GREATER MIAMI CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU ANNOUNCE THIS YEAR’S COMMUNITY DAY PROGRAM

Festival to Close in Historic Overtown Featuring The HBO® Short Film Award Showcase and the Marsai Martin-Led Girl Dad Screening

LOS ANGELES, CA – The 2026 American Black Film Festival (ABFF), celebrating its 30th anniversary under the theme “Homecoming,” will conclude its five-day celebration with its annual Community Day, presented in partnership with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The event will take place on Sunday, May 31, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at The Black Archives Historic Lyric Theater (819 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33136) in Historic Overtown. Open to the public, Community Day brings together festival attendees and the broader community for a dynamic afternoon of film screenings, a vendor marketplace, and curated cultural experiences.

This year’s program will feature the HBO® Short Film Award Showcase, along with an encore presentation of the world premiere film Girl Dad, written and directed by Solvan Slick Naim and starring Marsai Martin and Courtney B. Vance, and produced by Jamie Foxx, Datari Turner, Phil Thornton, Marsai Martin, and Josh Martin.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with members of the cast and creative team, including Marsai Martin.“It’s one of the most meaningful aspects of the festival for us,” said Jeff Friday, Cofounder & CEO of NICE CROWD and Founder of ABFF.
