Inspired by Lee\u2019s lifelong advocacy and commitment to community, this year\u2019s programming brings together generations through storytelling, food, music and hands-on learning that focus on the meaning of freedom. Program highlights include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NMAAHC Kids Juneteenth Story Time<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">11 a.m.\u2013noon; Classroom, Level 2Designed for children ages 3\u20138, this program features a reading of Tonya Abari\u2019s Let\u2019s Celebrate Juneteenth, led by an NMAAHC Kids educator. Children will learn about Lee and create a colorful art project celebrating freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Juneteenth Cookout Playbook<br>Noon; Family History Center, Level 2<br>An interactive workshop exploring how to plan a Juneteenth cookout inspired by Lee\u2019s favorite dishes, memories and traditions, highlighting food as an expression of heritage and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Juneteenth Art MakingNoon\u20133 p.m.; Classroom, Level 2Open to all ages, this hands-on experience centers the color red\u2014symbolizing resilience and remembrance during Juneteenth. Visitors will create collages inspired by red objects and artworks from the museum\u2019s collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Juneteenth Activation at the Museum\u2019s StoreAll day; Heritage Hall, Level 1A curated selection of Juneteenth-themed apparel and books will be available, including:A Committee of One: How Faith + Action = A PurposeFULL Life by Opal LeeFirst Freedom: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Story of Opal Lee and Juneteenth by Ang\u00e9lique Roch\u00e9Juneteenth: A Children\u2019s Story by Opal LeeOpal Lee and What It Means to Be Free by Alice Faye Duncan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Exhibitions and Museum-Wide Programming<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of its Juneteenth observance, the museum will also debut two new fine arts exhibitions Friday, June 12, \u201cRevelation: A Journey into Abstraction\u201d and \u201cReset: Abstraction Embodied in Design.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Together, the exhibitions explore how abstraction has shaped African American artistic expression across painting, sculpture, printmaking, furniture, textiles and lighting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A fully illustrated catalog, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/explore\/publications\/revelation\">Revelation: A Journey into Abstraction<\/a>,\u201d edited by NMAAHC\u2019s deputy director Dr. Michelle D.
